Counselling Supervision

How I work

My core model for counselling supervision is the 7 eyed supervision model by Peter Hawkins. It is a relational and systemic model enabling us to look with a number of different 'eyes' or perspectives on your client work.

I have been qualified as a counsellor for over 13 years in a wide range of settings so I am comfortable working with everyone from trainee counsellors to those who are very experienced. I love and highly value supervision, both as a supervisee and a supervisor - it's not just a 'tick box' exercise - and am keen to work with supervisees who feel, or want to feel, the same. I aim to foster a warm, supportive, compassionate, curious, collegiate relationship where we reflect, explore, co-create ideas and paths forward together, and where you can bring the whole of who you are. For example, it's more than ok if a session includes laughter, dark humour and swear words if that's you!

Qualifications/Experience

I have a (Level 6) Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision Including Online and Telephone Working, awarded by Counselling Tutor, April 2022.

I also worked in the NHS for a decade, mentoring many counselling trainees as a Placement Manager as part of this role.

Reasons I might not be the right supervisor for you...

  • If you need supervision for work with children/young people. The majority of my work has been with adult clients so it wouldn't be ethical for me to supervise that work.
  • You are required to have a BACP accredited counsellor - I am a registered BACP counsellor who is eligible for accreditation with over 5500 counselling hours but I haven't done the accreditation process - maybe this year! I am a NCPS accredited counsellor.
  • You work using a very different counselling approach from me. I am an integrative counsellor, person-centred at core but trained in the dialogue between person-centred and psychodynamic and my approach is informed by both. So I'm a good fit for person-centred or psychodynamic counsellors. I also may use some psychoeducational and CBT resources, sometimes bring in bibliotherapist/creative writing tools, and enjoy employing mindfulness and breathing techniques/movement where appropriate. Some counsellors enjoy e.g. having a Gestalt supervisor when they are person-centred to bring another dimension to their work but often some degree of overlap is helpful.

You've read my info and think I may be the right supervisor for you?

Please get in touch - email is best, or leave a message on my private practice mobile and I'll get back to you.

Appointments & cost

Initial meeting and future sessions (supervision)

Initial Meeting (Supervision)

All supervision appointments are video sessions via Zoom.

The first stage is for us to have an initial meeting. We can agree a mutually convenient time for this. The day and time for this initial meeting may differ from your regular supervision slot should you decide to continue.

It is important you find a supervisor you feel comfortable with, who can supervise all the clients you are seeking to bring to this supervision relationship, who has the right counselling and supervision approach for you and meets any requirements you/any course you are taking may have. My preference is to have a free appointment on Zoom of 20-30 minutes so we can check we are the right fit or if you want a full-length session to check how we work together that will be full-price.

Towards the end of the first meeting I will check if you are happy to make another appointment. You may wish to arrange the next appointment then, or you can go away and think about it.

Further Sessions (Supervision)

Further sessions will then be booked in for the length and regularity you need. I will also send you a supervision contract for you to sign. Often we just book in the next session but if there is a particular timeslot that is best for you I am happy to book in the next 3 or more months' in.
